Post-Facial Fat Grafting Care
Important Notes on Fat Absorption and Final Results
- A significant amount of the injected fat will be absorbed over 2 to 3 months; therefore, fat is injected in greater quantities than needed to compensate for gradual absorption.
- As a result, the face will appear deformed (irregular) and unattractive during the first 10 days – this is completely normal.
- The final result of the injection is usually achieved after 2 to 3 months, and the fat retained in the face is typically permanent by the third month.
Swelling and Asymmetry
- The face may be asymmetrical in the first few days or even up to 2 weeks, as swelling from injection on one side may be greater than the other.
- To reduce swelling, it is recommended to use an extra pillow while sleeping for the first 3 to 5 nights to keep the head and face in a higher position.
- Walking is beneficial for reducing facial swelling, whereas lying in bed increases swelling.
- To accelerate swelling reduction, control your salt intake.
- Applying ice packs to injection sites during the first 2 days helps somewhat in reducing swelling, but do not overuse ice.
Tape Care
- You can remove the tapes on the cheeks and under the eyes after 2 to 3 days in the shower.
Absolute Prohibitions (Harmful to Fat Cells)
Smoking
- Smoking cigarettes and hookah (shisha) during the 2 weeks following fat injection is very harmful to the survival of the injected cells.
Massage
- Manual massage is not recommended at all during the first 2 weeks after fat injection.
- After 2 weeks, if there are points with more swelling, you can massage and apply pressure to those points in coordination with the doctor.
Sleeping Position
- Do not sleep on your sides for 3 nights so that the injected fat on the cheeks does not shift.
Facial Movements and Eating
- Since facial movements cause the injected fat cells to move, avoid long and unnecessary talking in the first few days.
- Laugh less and just smile.
- Avoid chewing hard foods that require frequent opening and closing of the mouth during the first 72 hours.
- Eat soft foods.
- If your lips were also injected, do not use straws and do not pucker your lips.
Sunlight
- Do not expose the injected points on the face to direct and intense sunlight.
- Use sunscreen with SPF higher than 20 if necessary.
Lip Care (If Injected)
- If your lips were injected, regularly moisturize them with Vitamin A ointment.
Medications and Supplements
- You do not need any other medication except Cephalexin capsules.
- It is recommended to take Cephalexin for 3 to 5 days, one capsule every 6 hours.
- Never use fat-burning drugs, weight loss medications, or appetite suppressants during the week following injection.
- Be sure to take two foreign multivitamin tablets daily during the 2 to 3 weeks following fat injection.
Nutrition (Very Important Point)
- Hunger is very harmful to the injected fat cells. Therefore, avoid hunger during the first 2 weeks.
- Using carbohydrate and sweet snacks at 11 AM and 6 PM is recommended to better nourish the fat cells.
Physical Activity
- Avoid fat-burning exercises like treadmill and stationary bike for one month.
- Slow and short-term sports movements are permitted.
Post-Op Visit
- The first visit will be about one week after the operation.
Final Note: Facial fat grafting requires patience and special care in the first weeks. Strict adherence to the above points, especially providing proper nutrition for fat cells and avoiding harmful factors, plays a key role in the permanence of the final result.
Be happy and proud
