Post-Buccal Fat Removal Surgery Care

Hospitalization and Return Home

  • There is no need for hospitalization after buccal fat removal surgery, and the patient can return home on the same day.

Sutures and Scarring

  • The incision and sutures are located inside the mouth (a 1 cm incision adjacent to the wisdom tooth).
  • They will completely disappear after a few days, leaving no trace.
  • The sutures are absorbable and will dissolve on their own.

Nutrition

  • During the first week after surgery, you must consume light, liquid, and soft foods.

Mouth Rinsing

  • After surgery, rinse your mouth with mouthwash three times a day.

Medications

  • Use Cephalexin capsules (antibiotic) (20 capsules – 1 capsule every 6 hours).

Smoking Prohibition

  • Avoid smoking or using other tobacco products until the surgical site has completely healed.

Touching the Surgical Area

  • For one week after surgery, the wound and suture sites must not be touched by the tongue under any circumstances.

Cheek and Face Swelling

  • After surgery, the cheeks and surrounding areas of the face may remain swollen for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • This swelling is completely normal and will subside.
  • Asymmetric swelling on one side of the face, caused by blood accumulation, is a common phenomenon and will gradually resolve.

Use of Facial Girdle

  • Special facial girdles can be used for some time after surgery, in consultation with the doctor.

Time to See Final Results

  • The final result of buccal fat removal may not be apparent until several weeks after the operation.

Movement Restrictions

  • For 48 hours after surgery, strictly avoid lowering your head and straining.

Final Note: Buccal fat removal is an outpatient surgery with a relatively short recovery period. Strict adherence to the above points, especially proper diet and regular mouth rinsing, plays a key role in faster recovery and achieving the desired result.
