Post-Mammaplasty and Breast Lift Care

Pain and Swelling Management

  • Pain is at its maximum for up to three days and then decreases; painkillers are sufficient during this period.
  • Occasional cold compresses are recommended. However, due to natural numbness after surgery and the risk of skin damage from cold, they must be used with caution and intermittently.
  • The water used should be cold tap water (with a very small amount of ice).
  • After the third day, warm compresses help speed up the absorption of bruising. However, due to natural numbness after surgery, the temperature of the warm compress should not exceed 37 degrees Celsius (98.6°F).

Rest Position

  • To reduce pain and swelling, keep your body elevated higher than usual while resting.

Activity and Movement

  • Avoid heavy activity for a few weeks.
  • Normal activity is harmless, and absolute bed rest is prohibited as it increases the risk of blood clots in the lower limb vessels.

Nutrition and Diet

  • Reduce salt intake to a minimum for fifteen days.
  • Fresh pineapple (not canned compote) contains bromelain and Vitamin C, which are effective in speeding up the absorption of bruising and swelling.
  • Frequent consumption of fruits, fish, shrimp, and Omega-3 is recommended.

Normal and Warning Symptoms

  • Mild bruising at the surgical site is normal.
  • Serous discharge (blood-tinged fluid) for a few days is normal.
  • In case of significant bleeding and swelling, inform the doctor as soon as possible (this possibility exists up to two weeks after surgery).
  • In case of unbearable pain and swelling, inform Dr. Amali or his assistant.

Visit and Sutures

  • A visit in the first week is necessary to check the surgical site.
  • Sutures are absorbable and do not need to be removed.

Scar Prevention

  • Using silicone gel for a few months makes the scar more aesthetic.
  • Two weeks after surgery, use specialized silicone tape and cream on the wounds for 3 to 6 months.
  • Using silicone tape and cream on open wounds is not recommended.
  • The most important factor in scar healing is the patient's body predisposition for wound repair.

Use of Special Bra and Tape

  • Continue using the special bra and tape as instructed and for the necessary duration.
  • You can temporarily remove the bra and shower with cold water and baby shampoo.

Wound Care (First to Second Week)

  • During the first two weeks after surgery, use antibiotic ointments on the wound sites.
  • Wash the wound sites with saline solution.

Massage of Incision Areas

  • You can start massaging the incision areas two weeks after surgery.
  • Use body lotion or olive oil for massage.

Drain Care

  • If a drain is present, do not manipulate or remove it yourself.
  • Check the amount and condition of discharges according to the doctor's instructions.
  • The time for drain removal is determined by the doctor.
  • You can only shower after the drains are removed.

Medications and Supplements

  • Take your medications until finished.
  • Continue taking multivitamins for 4 weeks after surgery (one tablet per day).

Pre- and Post-Surgery Prohibitions

Before Surgery (2 to 3 Weeks)

  • Avoid smoking, hookah (shisha), and hormonal medications.

After Surgery (3 to 4 Days)

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages, aspirin, and blood-thinning medications.

Smoking Consumption

  • Smoking for a few weeks after surgery causes delayed healing and increased complications.

Activity Timeline

Activity Allowed Time
Start massaging incision areas 2 weeks after surgery
Driving 1 month after surgery
Swimming 2 months after surgery
Light exercises 2 months after surgery (gradually increase pressure)

Normal and Temporary Symptoms

  • Breast swelling and bruising may continue for 2 to 3 weeks after surgery.
  • Breast numbness is normal and will last for a few months.
  • In the first weeks after surgery, the shape, size, or height of the two breasts may not be exactly the same. Swelling can be different on both sides, causing temporary asymmetry. As swelling decreases, the shape of the breasts will gradually change.
  • Changes in nipple sensation or breast skin, including numbness, increased or decreased sensitivity, may occur after surgery and in many cases gradually resolve over the following weeks or months.

Sleeping Position

  • In the initial days after surgery, avoid sleeping on your stomach and do not apply direct pressure to the breasts.

Final Note: Mammaplasty and breast lift require special care in the first weeks, especially in managing swelling, proper use of compresses and special bras, and observing activity restrictions. Strict adherence to the above points and patience during the recovery period play a key role in achieving the desired result.
