Post-Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Care

First 48 Hours Care

  • Use ice packs or cold water compresses regularly during the first 48 hours to reduce swelling.
  • To minimize puffiness, place an extra pillow under your head for the first three nights.

Suture Care

  • Apply antibiotic eye ointment (Gentamicin) to the upper and lower eyelid suture sites twice daily using a cotton swab.
  • Be careful not to let the ointment enter inside the eye.

Prevention of Corneal Dryness

  • During the first three nights after surgery, ensure that your eyes do not remain open while sleeping.
  • If this occurs, use sufficient Vitamin A ointment to keep the cornea moisturized during sleep.
  • Warning: Corneal dryness caused by keeping the eyes open during sleep is considered the most serious complication of eyelid surgery.

Normal Symptoms After Surgery

In the first few days, eyes may become sensitive and experience:

  • Tearing.
  • Burning sensation.
  • Mild redness.

If these symptoms occur, you can use artificial tear drops (one drop every two hours).

Timeline for Subsequent Care

Activity Allowed Time
Full shower and face washing Day 2 after surgery
Use of cosmetics One week after surgery (if no significant bruising, swelling, redness, or inflammation)
Removal of upper and lower eyelid sutures Day 10 after surgery (First visit)
Start using wound healing ointments (Cicalfate or Stratamed) After one week (Avoid contact with eye mucosa)

Lower Eyelid Massage (If Needed)

  • If the lower eyelid was operated on via a skin incision, massage towards the corner of the eye and upwards is recommended after suture removal.
  • The correct massage technique will be taught to you by Dr. Amali or his assistant.

Final Note: Strict adherence to the above points, especially caring for corneal dryness in the first nights, plays a key role in the success of the surgery and a more comfortable recovery period for you.

Be happy and proud
